How God has Provided

Mt. Gilead is blessed with a rich history dating back to the church’s beginning. Mt. Gilead was constituted in 1836 with nine charter members who were original members of Ohoopee Baptist Church, the second oldest church in Washington County, Georgia. Mt. Gilead’s first location was at a place called Rock Springs on the Big Ohoopee Creek. Unfortunately, almost all of Mt. Gilead Church records were lost or destroyed by fire in 1916. However, we do know that in approximately 1892, Mt. Gilead moved to its present physical location. The present sanctuary was completed in 2013. During Mt. Gilead’s 187 years, there have been at least eleven pastors. Kenneth Brantley, the current pastor, has served the church since 1988.
